Holiday Decor

I've been making some of my own decor for a few years. Sometimes it holds up for years to come- sometimes it doesn't. Usually it's dependent upon what materials I use for it. I love to recycle things that are broken or in need of updating. We had bought a star tree topper last year, pulling it out- the back of it had broken off- which was ok since the front still looks great by itself. So here I had this really cute plastic star with cutouts, and a space for a round dowel.
So I had hubby trim one for me in the height I wanted - and cut off a small block from a scrap of 2cx4 wood. He drilled the hole for the dowel in the wood- and left the rest to me.
I glued the dowel into the block- then spray painted the stand with some hammered metal spray paint- just something I already had.
Then I glued the dowel to the star- all using E6000. Let it dry- then proceeded to decorate the inside of the star. ( Don't forget- you can click on the image to see it bigger!) I also added some silver glitter to the entire edge of the star.

For the inside- I used a couple different berry stems from the craft store, a Bobunny holly leaf and berry mulberry stem, also a mulberry poinsettia flower from Bobunny, with Bobunny button. I added in some grayish silver ribbon, and a K&Co chipboard plaque with silver brads. I finished with some brown glitter over most of the floral items.

I have found that tall decor is harder to find- especially in the thin sizes- and this fits perfectly on my dining room buffet table. I love how I was able to recycle this would be trash into a real treasure!
thanks for stopping by- and if you don't want to take the time to comment- just click on those smaller boxes and let me know what you think about my projects!
have a great day!
